Our Ingredients
In addition to active biochar, each of our soils contain a handful of wonderful ingredients your plants will love.
Why Biochar?

Volcanic Minerals
A to Z minerals to replenish your soil —like magnesium, calcium, and potassium—that many commercial mixes lack – helping your plants grow stronger and more resilient.

Worm Castings
Deliver natural, bioavailable nutrients and enzymes that enhance root growth and boost immunity in your plants.

Coco Coir
Serves as a great medium for root growth, as it balances both drainage and moisture retention.

Compost
Adds rich organic matter, offering a slow, steady release of central plant nutrients and promoting healthy root development. Plus, it’s certified organic!

Expanded Shale
Provides excellent drainage and aeration, preventing compacted roots and supporting long-term plant health as it doesn’t break down over time.
FAQ
Can I use Circle Soil Houseplant mix for edible plants and herbs?
Yes! While designed for houseplants, our mix works well for most herbs and edibles. Just note that faster-growing plants like veggies may need more frequent feeding to stay happy and productive.
Can I use Circle Soil for all types of houseplants?
Yes! Circle Soil Houseplant mix is well suited for nearly all houseplants. Our soils retain enough water to get your plants what they need, but also support drainage and aeration so we can prevent root rot. An important component of this adaptive water management is the biochar in our soil. The biochar acts like tiny water storage tanks that take in and release water as needed. With that said, you still need to adapt your watering to the needs of your plant. If you have a plant that needs very little water, such as lithops or other drought-adapted plants, be mindful to be very light on the water!
What makes Circle Soil different from other potting mixes?
There are plenty of potting mixes out there—but Circle Soil is different, you have come to the right place and your plants will thank you. While many use cheap, bulk ingredients that simply get the job done, we focus on long-term plant health and environmental impact. Our small-batch blend is crafted from local, organic, and sustainable materials chosen for their lasting benefits. Designed to nourish your plants and support a circular economy, Circle Soil is soil you—and your plants—can feel good about. Once you try it, you'll see the difference.
Does your soil contain peat moss?
Nope! We leave peat moss in the ground where it belongs. While it’s been widely used in potting soil, harvesting it harms ecosystems and releases stored carbon. Instead, we use coconut coir—a sustainable byproduct of the coconut industry—that offers similar benefits without the environmental cost. If you are interested in learning more about peat moss and climate change, here is an article from Oregon State University on the topic.
Does your soil contain any synthetic additives?
No—our soil is 100% free of synthetic additives. An important component of our approach to soil is using sustainable ingredients that are not developed or made in a synthetic industrial lab environment. We use only natural, sustainable ingredients that support long-term plant and soil health. Unlike mixes with synthetic fertilizers, Circle Soil nourishes your plants without harming the environment.
